SPRING 2012

Bible Doctrine
There are some 40 references to doctrine in the New Testament.  Knowing what God has revealed to us in Scripture and knowing that God’s Word is sufficient and necessary, is therefore clearly an important part of the life and walk of a Christian.   What we learn about God and our relationship to Him, about Christ and his work for us, and about ourselves as sinners in need of redemption, directly and quickly influences our attitudes towards our families, our vocations, our neighbors, and our church community.

This class is based on one of the most reliable and useful approaches to studying God’s Word, systematic theology.  In a work of systematic theology, such as this one by Dr. Wayne Grudem, all the information in the whole Bible on aspects of doctrine are organized and presented to the reader subject by subject.  This book and this class are appropriate for those who have been Christians for only a short time and for Christians who have studied scripture for a lifetime.  There is no reading required outside of the class; each week we will read and discuss a portion of the book. This class is taught by Peter Focks and meets in the Adult Ed. Building, Room D.

Welcome to the Family Class
For anyone interested in church membership and/or EFCA doctrine;  What does it mean to join a church formally, to be a member?  Why is it important?  If you are interested in the fellowship at Creekside and would like to know more about what we believe as part of the larger Christian church, here’s a good place to start.  No obligation to join is assumed.  This class is taught by Mark Szymanski and others and meets in the Adult Ed. Building, Rooms B & C. Please note that this class will begin Sunday, January 22, 2012.

Jerry Bridges’ Growing Your Faith
This class is taught by Roy Garren and meets in FH3 (southernmost room in the Fellowship Hall building).

The Book of Proverbs
Some form of the words “wise” or “wisdom” occurs more than 450 times in the English Bible.  Wisdom is a theme in the Bible.  Eve sought wisdom through the forbidden fruit when she saw that “it was desirable for gaining wisdom.”  This brought evil and death into the world. However, there is a true wisdom to be gained.  It brings life: “The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life.” (Proverbs 13:14).  God is the source of this true wisdom and Proverbs gives us a guide to obtaining it.  God gives this wisdom (Proverbs 2:6), but he gives it to you if you accept his words and commands, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.  (Proverbs 2:2-5)  Wisdom is a gift of God, but it found at the end of a challenging treasure hunt.  We hope that you will join us in the quest.  This class is taught by Jed Keesling and meets in the Fellowship Hall.
