Dear Creekside family,
Many of you have probably heard by now the great news about Sunday’s overwhelming “Yes” vote to bring Steve Lammers onto the staff as our next Youth Pastor. I am excited to work with him as a fellow pastor and staff member, but even more thrilled as a parent to have Steve leading the team working with our youth. Steve’s official start date will be Monday, August 19th. Toward that end, would you join me in praying for the following?
First, please pray for the Lammers family and their integration into Creekside, specifically that this would be a good and healthy place for them individually and as a family. It can be tempting for us to view Steve exclusively through the lens of what he is going to do for us and forget that he and his family are new members to the church who should be cared for as well. The teaching and community at Creekside have already been a blessing to them, and I am prayerful that this will continue.
Second, please pray for Steve and the youth leaders to have wisdom on how to take the vision of the Youth Task Force and create a workable, sustainable ministry. Last summer, the Youth Task Force, which comprised of twelve people from the church, worked hard to come up with a vision for a sustainable youth ministry by carefully considering Creekside’s distinctives and philosophy of ministry as well as consulting outside resources and best practices. They did a lot of great work and preparation in order to bring us to this point, but now those ideas and principles will have to be put into practice. Everything always goes much smoother on paper, so prayer for this next part of the process is greatly appreciated.
Third, please pray for our youth in the midst of the transition. I would ask you to especially remember our upperclassmen. These students have had terrific folks leading and serving them over the years, but the amount of change they have seen over those years has been hard. It occurs to me that we should both pray for them as well as reach out and let them know that we love and value them. I’m happy they are here to see this new chapter for the youth, but a greater gift would be to affirm that they are seen, known, and loved by their church family.
Lastly, while Steve Lammers will bring many unique gifts to our staff team, we need to remember that we ALL play a role in loving and supporting our kids. Let’s not to sit back and coast, but instead use this new start to love each other well. God is good to us, again and again; this is yet one more example of that. I’m grateful for each of you and the grace of God that is on display in this church body.
